Written Scheme of Examination

We provide Written Schemes of Examination (WSE) for air compressors and pressure systems in full compliance with the UK Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR). Our experienced engineers ensure your equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in line with statutory HSE requirements.

Whether you manage a small workshop or a large industrial facility, a compliant Written Scheme of Examination is not optional, it’s a legal requirement and an important part of maintaining a safe workplace.

A Written Scheme of Examination is a legally required document in England under the PSSR 2000. It sets out the details of how your pressure system, including air receivers, compressors, and pipework, must be inspected and tested to ensure they’re safe and compliant.

If your system contains a relevant fluid, such as compressed air, and has a stored energy exceeding 250 bar litres, you must have a WSE in place. Operating without one is a breach of UK law and can result in expensive fines, invalid insurance, and serious safety risks.

Compressed air systems operate under high pressure and can pose significant risks if they’re not properly cared for. A Written Scheme of Examination helps prevent these potential risks by ensuring:

  • Legal compliance with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000
  • Protection of employees and equipment through identifying wear or corrosion
  • Reduced risk of costly downtime due to scheduled inspections
  • Valid insurance coverage, as many insurers require a current WSE
  • Confidence that your system is being managed responsibly

A WSE includes:

  • The parts of the system that need to be checked
  • Examination requirements based on your equipment type and usage
  • Testing and inspection methods
  • Acceptance criteria for continued safe use
  • Reporting format and certification after inspection
  • Recommendations if issues are identified

Our qualified engineers tailor each WSE to your specific system, ensuring components are assessed and documented correctly. We combine technical expertise with regulatory knowledge, giving you peace of mind that your pressure systems meet legal standards.
